To research the play, there are many ways to research without internet:
- Physically going to a place to ask about their views of the topics in the play. eg. Cathedral
This could deepen my understanding of the play as I could question religious people there about their views' on the devil.
- Watching films/documentries about the time period
This could help by showing how people acted in the time, and how modern day actors approach playing characters from the time period.
- Reading the play/book
By reading the play/book, I can further my understanding by looking into the details of the book and thinking about different ways to act them out.
- Listen to music from the time
The music can show how it reflected behaviour and what it was like in the time.
- Physically going to a place. eg. Soho
By going to a place where one of the themes is shown, it can build our understanding of how the theme can affect the play and how it can be introduced.
- Research the playwriter
This could show what style their plays' are usually written/acted in.
- Look at art from the time
The art could be painted of the time and what they saw so we can see what our characters' would be surrounded by.
- Research Italy
By researching the place where the play is set in, we can understand our characters' surroundings more therefore we could make it more believable.
How different methods could be used for different things:
The different methods can be used in very different ways... For example, researching a cathedral's view on the devil could deepen our understanding of the theme of the play, which we could apply to our acting, whereas researching the time period could help us act as in we are living in that time as we can understand our surroundings.
